Editing
Master image editing with AI-powered mask mode for precise transformations.
ImagineStudio provides powerful editing capabilities that let you modify any part of your images with AI assistance. The centerpiece is Mask Mode, which combines freehand selection with AI-powered editing.
Mask Mode
Mask Mode allows you to select specific areas of an image and apply AI-powered transformations. Whether you want to remove an object, isolate a subject, or completely transform a region with a text prompt, Mask Mode gives you precise control.
Entering Mask Mode
- Click on any image on the canvas to select it
- The Image Toolbar appears above the selected image
- Click the brush icon to enter Mask Mode
When you enter Mask Mode:
- The canvas automatically zooms and centers on your image
- A dark overlay appears around the image to help you focus
- The image becomes locked (cannot be moved)
- The toolbar switches to the Mask Mode Toolbar
- Sidebars become inactive to prevent accidental actions
Drawing Selections
Use the lasso tool to draw freehand selections around any area:
- Click and hold to start drawing
- Draw around the object or area you want to edit
- Return near your starting point to close the selection
- The selected area fills with a blue highlight
You can draw multiple selection areas on the same image. Each area can be deleted individually or all at once.
Editing Actions
Once you have a selection, three actions become available:
Remove Object
Removes the selected content and intelligently fills the area based on surrounding context. Use this to:
- Remove unwanted objects from photos
- Clean up backgrounds
- Erase distractions from your composition
Isolate
Extracts the selected subject and removes everything else, creating a transparent background. Draw a mask around any region to extract it with high fidelity. Use this to:
- Extract subjects for compositing
- Create stickers or assets
- Separate foreground from background
- Enhance specific regions with precision
Edit with Prompt
The most powerful option. Describe what you want and AI transforms the selected area accordingly. When you click Edit with Prompt:
- A text input appears
- Type your description (e.g., "make it a golden retriever" or "add sunglasses")
- Optionally attach reference images from your canvas for style guidance
- Press Enter or click Send
Reference images help the AI understand your vision. If you have other images on your canvas that show the style or look you want, attach them as references.
Exiting Mask Mode
Click the X button in the toolbar or press Escape to exit Mask Mode. This will:
- Restore the canvas to its previous view
- Unlock the image
- Clear all mask selections
- Reactivate the sidebars
Keyboard Shortcuts
| Key | Action | |-----|--------| | Escape | Exit Mask Mode / Cancel prompt input | | Enter | Submit prompt (when prompt input is open) |
Tips
- Start with clear selections: The more precise your selection, the better the result
- Use descriptive prompts: Be specific about what you want changed
- Attach references: When editing with a prompt, reference images significantly improve results
- Multiple areas: You can select multiple disconnected areas and edit them all at once
- Experiment: AI editing works best when you iterate and refine
